Mark Warner (D) vs. Ed Gillespie (R)
Mark Warner attacks Ed Gillespie in new ad tying his former firm to "dictator"
Senator Mark Warmer (D-Va.) is airing three new attack ads against Republican Ed Gillespie. The Virginia Senate race, which has until now, received little national attention, is quickly becoming very heated. The attacks focus on Gillespie’s lobbying career, his work in the White House when George W. Bush attempted to privatize Social Security, and an accusation that Gillespie falsely accused Warner of finding a potential job for the daughter of a Democratic legislator on the verge of quitting the evenly split state Senate. All three ads mention that Gillespie was a lobbyist for Enron. Republicans, on the other hand, counter with the argument that these ads are a sign of fear from a senator who has been safe for a long time. “His poll numbers are tanking,” said Gillespie spokesman Paul Logan.
Warner, Gillespie spar over Puckett scandal, energy, Ebola
Republican Ed Gillespie attacked Senator Mark Warner (D) for discussing the possibility of giving the job of federal judge to the daughter of a Democrat on the verge of quitting the evenly split Senate, throwing control to the GOP. “I would never play politics with recommending judicial appointments,” Gillespie said, claiming that Virginia’s voters deserve answers. Warner responded that he simply called Puckett’s son to “brainstorm” potential jobs for the senator’s daughter, as his family and Senator Puckett’s have been friends for nearly 20 years. Puckett eventually did resign, putting the Republicans in control of the chamber. Issues of tax reform and energy policies were also raised at this particular debate. This included the building of power plants, which Warner opposes since “China and India are going to go ahead and build 800 additional coal plants”, and drilling off the coast of Virginia, with Gillespie saying he only favored this to improve fuel-efficiency (relating to his work with Enron). Gillespie claimed, however, that he knew nothing of the company’s corruption when it was a client, and pointed out that Warner was also an investor in Enron. When asked about Ebola, Warner said it was perhaps time to consider flight restrictions, but Gillespie took a stricter line on flights, saying the time had already passed to "impose a flight ban".

Political Cartoons
This political cartoon is from the perspective of many people who feel that Mark Warner, although Democrat, is neither taking decisive stances on many issues from the Republican standpoint or the Democratic standpoint. Instead, he continues to be "on the fence" for many important issues surrounding the debate, which may not be as beneficial for his campaign.
This cartoon mocks Charter Schools that are formed by specific charters documenting exactly how the school will be run and what sorts of education techniques it will employ. Ed Gillespie advocates for the creation of more Charter Schools that will better suit local communities, but this cartoon shows that they may not always be as logical as they might seem.
